Grooving through the Holiday Season
DimensionL Wellbeing provides the philosophy, methodology and container to enable a person to experience what it truly means to feel and stay well: we call it a return to Wholeness. Our approach keeps LOVE in the center. We are here to guide our clients to the highest expression of themselves. The result being greater well-being for the individual and therefore greater well-being for society. Our way provides the opportunity to function in your fullness with more consistency.
At DimensionL Wellbeing we recognize and honor that multidimensional beings must be met with a potential focused, sustainable, multifaceted approach to Vital Wellbeing. We define Wholeness through the lens of 8 dimensions and when applied with LOVE creates a Vibrant Lifestyle.
Through our offerings and care, we help our clients navigate these issues to support them in becoming their own health advocate and turning on their Inner Light. When these dimensions are in resonance, the more LIGHT a person will exude. This is not a quick fix or another marker of achievement, rather it is a way of living and thriving through connection, education and exploration.
True health is found in personal coherence - this is when what one says, believes, feels and acts upon are in alignment.
Our mission is to provide impactful and empowering care which awakens people to their divine design and entanglement to the universe; supporting the activation of their full potential. That is why we created the 8 Dimensions of Wellbeing, which transforms lives and reduces or eliminates suffering.
This blog explores the Environmental + Physical Dimensions of wellbeing. I share a few ways to adjust your workout routine throughout the holiday season. What is happening around us (environment) directly affects our wellbeing. In many ways we need more self-care throughout the winter season, yet this is a time where we are typically busier than ever. This is why so many people get sick and are worn down after the holiday season. What if you could maintain your health while also enjoying the holiday festivities?
Tis the season to be jolly! Fa la la la la la la la la!
According to the dictionary, jolly is to be defined as ‘being in good spirits’, especially regarding the holiday season. Personally, I adore the holiday season. The main reason is that there seems to be an abandonment of separation and an emphasis on unification.
You may already know that I have dual citizenship; Canadian and American, which means I grew up moving between the two countries. Being connected to family has always been of utmost importance to me because I was always missing someone. The holiday season reminds me of all that I am grateful for, both near and far.
I have only one holiday bugaboo, the decline of a healthy routine. With all of the holiday scurry, a solid eating and healthy movement plan is usually the first thing to go. Many even feel guilty about devoting this time to healthy habits when there are so many presents to be bought and friends and family to visit. However, it is my personal goal to maintain my level of health throughout the holiday season, while enjoying the festivities and heart of the season.
Today I want to focus on exercise routines. Personally, I am very blessed to love movement. Throughout my life I participated in long distance running, volleyball, basketball, drill team, cheerleading, dancing, weight lifting, cycling, yoga, barre and Lagree. Even when I don’t have access to a gym or an exercise DVD, I am able to devise a workout for myself that will get my heart pumping, blood and sweat flowing.
Also, with the health issues I have faced it is imperative that I move around to reduce this stagnation. As a result of my personal and professional exploration, I am learning that much of our pain and inflammation are a result of stagnation. What is the remedy to stagnation of your joints and chakras??
MOVEMENT! After years and years of exercising and always trying to find the ‘right’ workout for me this was my ‘ah-ha’ moment! JUST MOVE, however, wherever, whenever, with whomever. I can only speak for myself, but I can waste so much time worrying about what to do rather than just DOING.
Here are a few ways to incorporate movement into the holiday hustle & bustle. As I said previously, I enjoy all types of movement, so please feel free to explore different types of movements and find ones that work best for your composition, physical needs, and that which brings you joy.
Practice Squats (and other movement) while brushing your teeth: I find this to be an effective habit for two reasons. One, you are getting your squats in for the day, shaping and toning your luscious thighs & booty. Two, sometimes we don’t brush our teeth as long as we should…voila! 3 sets of 20 squats you’ll be feeling the burn and enjoying your pearly whites. Where else can you include movement into your busy routine? Squats or lunges while cooking? Power walking while shopping? Get creative!
Take the stairs: If you find that you simply do not have enough time to set aside an hour for physical activity, simply make small adjustments in your day to day such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator. Even better, if you have stairs at home, take the stairs 10-20 times/day. This will only take about 10-15 minutes of your time.
Engage in festive activities: The beauty of this tip is that you can invite your friends and family along to enjoy the fun. Ice skating, snowboarding, and sledding are all great examples of winter activities you can participate in while switching up your regular exercise activity. This can become another holiday tradition!
Start your day with movement: Schedule time for your movement exercises and stick to it. The beginning of your day is a great place to schedule your workouts. You may not have the time or space to go as hard as you like, but anything is better than nothing. There are many mental and physical benefits to starting your day with movement.
It is my hope that everyone will find types of movement that reduce stagnation, improve lymph and immune systems, and brings joy to your heart. I recommend being aware of your capabilities and working with yourself rather than against. Although I am a highly active person, when I am experiencing neuropathy pain I must listen to my body and adjust my exercise accordingly. The goal is to be working in harmony with your body, free from judgment.
Also, try to work different parts of your body each day. This will ensure overall balance and muscle tone. Lastly, always be prepared. If you will be going on a vacation make sure you have packed to include exercise into your vacation. I recently brought 3lb weights, a resistance band and my yoga & barre DVDs on a trip so that I could remain faithful to my body.
Be creative, create your own routine. When I do not have access to weights, I will use soup cans to practice my exercises. Where there is a WILL there is a WAY!
Happy Holidays to all of my friends & family! I am so incredibly blessed to be surrounded by such encouraging, supportive people. May you & your family enjoy restful holidays & I hope the New Year brings you all immense joy & peace.
