Become Your Own Lifesaver
‘There is one consolation in being sick; and that is the possibility that you may recover to a better state than you were ever in before.’
Henry David Thoreau
As many of you know I practice a holistic approach to well-being which means; yes, I prefer to focus on seeing the body as already whole. It also entails diving into other areas of life that may be contributing to our overall wellbeing or lack there of.
Are you working at a job you loathe? Do you criticize yourself EVERY TIME you eat something you feel is not good for you?
While many individuals desire to live ‘the American Dream’ of wellbeing, what is the probability of this actuality? What if I told you the actuality of the state of wellbeing, of the average American, is more closely aligned with unhappiness, fear, disconnection, confusion, abandonment and illness.
As a country which relies heavily on data, let’s take a look at some recent data regarding America's state of wellbeing.
As of 2013 it was estimated that 1 in 3 men and 1 in 2 women were diagnosed with Cancer. - according to SEER Cancer Statistics Review
As of 2012, 1 in 5 Americans were diagnosed with an Auto-Immune dis-ease.
About 1 in 54 children has been identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) according to estimates from CDC’s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network. And the CDC can no longer claim vaccines does not cause Autism, as of 2020.
Suicide rates are at the highest level since World War 2, as of 2017, according to annual research published by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics
Are humans really designed with this level of dysfunction or have we accepted the level of dysfunction collectively created?
Let’s start by looking at how the establishments are contributing to this illusion of wellbeing. The entwinement of pharmaceutical, medical, agricultural and political systems pursuing profit over people, has created an immoral, low quality and negligent environment in which individuals are forced to operate. The outdated, overstretched, profit infiltrated medical system manages problems and compartmentalizes the care and needs of a patient, creating an elusive and intangible idea of what it means to be well. This system believes if something is not working, cut it out! There is little to no regard for treating the person as a whole (ie. mental and emotional trauma have been proven to affect the physical body). Instead, they treat symptoms over addressing root causes. Besides, if one is not feeling well, there is a pill for that! The lack of time and attention has led to temporary solutions which causes further imbalance and distrust.
The little education an individual may receive in school, about their bodies and health, is filtered through these tangled and profit mongering institutions, mentioned above, which translates to misinformation and a disenfranchised view of what it means to be well. The approach is fear based, severe and disconnected; instead of teaching prevention, personal responsibility and connection to one's self. A person is made to believe they are at the mercy of doctors, and the powers that be, to know what is going on inside their bodies. This creates dependency on a system which manages illness and provides little benefit to those who actively pursue prevention.
What functions at the collective level permeates and affects the individual, and vice versa.
This also is rarely considered or acted upon in our society - it is common to believe one functions as a separate being when in reality one is only as well as their peers and environment. The separation of science and spirituality has encouraged the individual to do the same, compartmentalizing aspects of their health. It is the Soul of a person, connected to Source Creation, which inspires miracles and a return to wholeness.
With the current state of times, it has become imperative to stop personally and collectively perpetuating suffering, if society desires to change their trajectory. For those who value the sustainability of wellbeing, one must be ready to step out of illusion and disconnection and into a field of unlimited potential and possibilities. DimensionL will meet them there.
We recognize and honor that multidimensional beings must be met with a sustainable, potential focused, comprehensive approach to Vital Wellbeing. We define Wholeness through the lens of 8 dimensions and when applied creates a DimensionL Lifestyle. At the core of our Dimensions of Wellbeing, is Love and is the inspiration and reminder in our name: DimensionL Wellbeing.
At the core of our Dimensions of Wellbeing, is Love and is the inspiration and reminder in our name: DimensionL Wellbeing.
Love is the great equalizer and ground on which one can make all decisions, because every choice is an act of Creation. We believe in a benevolent world. When we keep Love as our focus, all of these wellness ‘to-do’s’ become an act of service to our Highest Good. What’s more, Love is the great multiplier; it is an unending supply source which expands upon itself. When one is centered, it is easier for someone to know what they need and the more they activate their Intuitive abilities, the greater access they have to this part of themselves. Love is an actual vibration, one of which all humans are naturally attuned to if only one can be still and align. From this space one has access to transformational healing and awareness of their interconnectedness to all.
I am here to share with you, my sweet friends, that our cells are listening and they have memories too.
Yes that’s right, not only do your thoughts become your actions but they also become the health or sickness of your body. When we are constantly telling ourselves we are not enough, worthy, or we will never be the size we want to be our cells remember these thoughts and carry them into action.
Does this all sound really bizarre? I am sure it might! It did to me until I started peeling back the layers of sickness to regain my own health. What I did know: yes, there are physical manifestations in my body. I knew I did not have feeling in my hands or feet. I knew that my pain and fatigue were so great that I couldn’t even put on clothes. I also knew that this was not the end for me, that there had to be a better way. And so my journey to healing began. That is when I fell in love with natural and holistic healing. It offered a solution, not one of quick fixes but of longevity and sustainability.
I started with changing my diet, supplementation, altering my workout routine, removing toxins from my body; yet some of the pain was still there. Yes, most of my days were MUCH better than before, but there was still a deep pain that resided in my body, especially my legs and hips. Some days I walked with a limp because the pain and lack of mobility was so enveloping. So back to the drawing board I went.
Hello body!!!! I have changed SOOOO many habits in the past two years can you not just cooperate?! I mean, I don’t party with friends anymore, I eat super clean, I exercise several times a week, deep breath, give back, etc etc. Can’t a good girl just catch a break?!
I am a seeker of knowledge, so on my journey to healing I have relied upon the doctors and healers who have done it before me. I have read extensively about autoimmune disorders, balancing hormones, toxicity, etc. My latest area of interest has been epigenetics, where I found a missing link for myself.
Epigenetics is the study of the control of genes from outside the cell.
Our previous understanding of DNA postulated that behaviors and characteristics were a result of genetics. However, we are learning that outside influences like; our thoughts, behaviors, dietary choices, and toxin levels are turning our genes on and off allowing certain aspects to express or suppress. For instance, if someone is healing from a broken leg that is filled with anger the body will take more time and effort to heal because these strong emotions have thwarted the production of stem cells (blank cells that aid in regeneration).
This may sound unbelievable but this is what science is proving to be true. How else would identical twins grow up and live with different health issues? Die at different times? BECAUSE GENE EXPRESSION HAPPENS OUTSIDE OF THE CELL and is greatly influenced by what we do and how we do it. It is also a fact that people who experienced traumatic childhoods are up to 60% more likely to develop degenerative diseases like cancer, alzheimer’s, diabetes, etc.
Oh yay! As if your trauma wasn’t enough here’s a nice dose of disease. Well, I’ve got divorce, suicide, abuse, poverty, Autism, and plethora of other childhood stressors under my belt so I should be good to go! I apologize for the dark humor but I sincerely believe you must be able to integrate and not take things so seriously, and here I am all healthier and happier than ever!
Here’s the silver lining…OUR GENES ARE INFLUENCED BY OUTSIDE SOURCES. I am sorry to reiterate but that’s the silver lining! Okay yes you may be sick or experiencing imbalance, yea you experienced mass amounts of trauma but YOU can influence your DNA. You are not bound to your illness, your circumstances, or ‘genetic disposition’ because you have the POWER to change much of it.
And so it is, I will change the state of my health. I believe in total healing, that my ‘autoimmune disease’ can be reversed. Why? Because I will change my habits, thoughts, and actions to be in alignment with what I, my genes, and spirit need to become healthy and whole again. For so long I have let fear and lack live in my cells because of traumas and my response to them. Letting them take up space, leaving me with an incredibly deep feeling of loneliness. No matter who I was around that despair resonated on a cellular level. Of course sickness manifested in my body. I was trying so desperately to shrink inside that my immune system decided to take charge and say ‘hello here I am!’
Why would my immune system do that? Betray me like that? Except now I know it wasn’t betrayal at all, it was an act of love. I am a wild child with a vivaciousness to teach and lead. In fact, for many my energy can be too much. I am aware of that and that is why I practice yoga & meditation. However, that is me and that is who I shall be. Since I was trying to be a shrinking violet because of my hurts, part of me decided to scream out. To resonate the pain I wasn’t let be felt.
Now that epigenetics has led me to an epiphany I can deepen my path to healing. I have the knowledge of what my body needs supplementary, nutritionally and now I can nourish myself with love and the acceptance to feel my feelings. Of course this will be a path of more learning but at least I have found my healing road.
Here are some of my favorite ways to calm the mind and be able to listen to what the body and heart needs. I hope you do try!
Connection
Prayer and worship is a personal choice, but knowing and trusting that there is a Creator of this Universe who is loving and protecting carries great value for your health. According to a study done at Indiana State University by Jean Kristeller, a Ph.D., a psychologist, when doctors asked their terminally ill patients about their spiritual concerns they experienced a greater sense of well-being and less incidences of depression. Many studies have been performed regarding the power of prayer as well.
Meditation
The health benefits of meditation are numerous and I encourage you to look further into this with the link provided below. Some benefits include improved mood, attention, memory and learning ability.
Deep breathing
There are many forms of exercises to be give a try. Some invigorate the body and provide more energy and clarity. Other forms act as a natural tranquilizer for the nervous system bringing it to a more serene state. All of which are very vital to healing. I encourage you to practice at home or at your local yoga studio. I have provided links of a few below.
Visualization
Carl Jung made this practice popular in the 1970s. There have been numerous cases of patients with late stage cancer practicing daily visualization of their cancer being eaten up or overcome with stars who have miraculously recovered from their terminal illness. Practice visualization exercises for whatever health improvements you need in your life.
Remember, you have the key to unlock your healing and if you need a reminder you can always connect with us at DLW. Now that the excuse of ‘my mom or dad had this’ is out of the equation, what is standing in your way of a healthier, more vibrant you?
